For the Casserole:

- 1 bag (9–10 oz) tortilla chips , lightly crushed
- 1 lb ground beef (or turkey/chicken for a lighter option)
- 1 packet taco seasoning (about 1 oz, or make your own—see below)

- 1 can (15 oz) refried beans
- 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese , divided

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) . Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or casserole pan.
Step 2: Cook the Beef

- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink (about 6–8 minutes ). Drain any excess grease.
- Stir in the taco seasoning and salsa, mixing well to combine. Simmer for 2–3 minutes , then remove from heat.
Step 3: Layer the Casserole

- Spread half of the crushed tortilla chips evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Spoon the refried beans over the chips, spreading them into an even layer.
- Add half of the cooked beef mixture on top of the beans, followed by 1 cup of shredded cheese .
- Repeat the layers: remaining chips, beef mixture, and another 1 cup of shredded cheese .
Step 4: Bake
- Bake for 20–25 minutes , or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden around the edges.
Step 5: Add Toppings and Serve

- Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool slightly. Top with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, guacamole, diced tomatoes, or fresh cilantro.
