Ingredients
For the Brownies:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2–3 bananas)
For the Brown Butter Frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract.
- Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually stir into the butter mixture until well blended.
- Fold in the mashed bananas.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
For the Frosting:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat until boiling. Let the butter turn a delicate brown and remove from heat immediately.
- Pour the butter into a bowl and add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Beat until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Use Ripe Bananas: The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your brownies will be.
- Brown Butter Care: Watch the butter carefully when browning. It can go from perfectly nutty to burnt in seconds.
- Customization: Feel free to add a handful of chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the batter for extra texture.
- Storage: Store any leftovers (if there are any!) in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
